We’ve just greatly improved the flockNote blog. This will be the place to follow all of the exciting stuff going on in the near future on flockNote.com.

You’ll also notice the flockNote API tab.† This is where we’ll start documenting efforts and details on using the flockNote API.† If you know any Catholic web designers, programmers, etc.† Please let them know about the flockNote API. And if anyone is interested in getting involved in its development, please have them contact us.

God bless!

I recently set up a Flocknote account to see if I can get away from using the distribution list tied to my Outlook client that I can only run on my home computer. I like how people can choose how best to communicate with them, which will change over the coming months/years as people get more familiar with the various social networking products available. I did find that when I tested the text message option, notes were cut off after about 90 (or so) characters. I know that tweets have to be 140 or less, but text messages should receive everything even if the provider has to break it up into multiple sends, correct?

I can see that additional marketing and communication will be needed to get the 150+ Dads in my distribution list to take the action of actually signing up for Flocknotes (currently at 11). Maybe by bribing them with bagels in the morning and beer in the evenings, we’ll make some headway!

Thanks again,
Chuck

Chuck – thanks for the feedback and for trying out flockNote! We’ve adjusted the txt message feature a little bit to help it not get cut off as early as 90 chars (like you were seeing). However, it’s a little complicated because different providers include different things in their character count. So there will be a discrepancy depending on your provider.

And actually, no matter how long a “Note” is, you’ll only receive 1-2 txt msgs for it (the first 140-240 characters). We do this because if somebody happened to send a really long note (thousands of characters long) the recipient would end up getting barraged with 10-100 txt msgs (something they usually do not want and is not practical for reading).

So we just limit it so you get the first part of the note via txt msg. If the Note is short, then you’ll get the whole thing. If it’s longer, then you can get the first part of it by txt and are at least notified that something has been sent (but will have to check your email or flocknote account to read the full, long note).

These features will be improving in the future as we are able to more fully develop them! Thanks for your patience and participation in making flockNote into what it needs to be. God bless!
